The Artists on OBR Rise 2020

Fifi Oh
One Billion Rising (OBR for short) began as a call to action based on the staggering statistic that 1 in 3 women on the planet will be beaten or raped during her lifetime. With the world population at 7 billion, this adds up to more than ONE BILLION WOMEN AND GIRLS. Fifi Oh is among these survivors.

Fifi Oh (siouxsieincognita) uses art therapy such as building in second life to minimize anxiety and chronic pain.

My build is simply entitled, “Rise”
I wish to encourage others to be open to transformative change and rise from their ashes. To use artistic mediums in Second Life to find their centers and build up their own self worth and transform, be the phoenix. Rise Up from your ashes.ღ

About Fifi Oh:
I’m a former RL live concert photographer. I’ve turned my love for photography into a passion for freelance graphic design.

I am an Educator and Event Coordinator for the Official Virtual Region of Burning Man; known as Burn2. I am also a member of the stage crew volunteers for Second Life Birthday (known as SLB), which has got to be the best team of volunteers in all of SL! I’m a resident DJ & Clam Tribe Councilor for Organica Happy Clam Island and have been Organica’s stage builder for Burn2; 2017, 2018, 2019 – MY TRIBE! I am a mixmaster multi-genre electronic music DJ.
My current focus is on Progressive Psytrance, Deep House, Progressive House, Melodic House, Tech House, Minimal & Melodic Techno.
My specialty is creating immersive storyline sets.

More than anything else, I am a fan of all this /amazing user-generated/ content within SL.
Thank you to everyone who contributes their imagination to SL and thank you for taking the time to read my bio.

About Fran Gustav’s One Billion Rising Art Installation:

Years ago I visited in Venice, the city where I was born, a beautiful exhibition of Pae White for Le Stanze del Vetro, where each brick was unique: the result of the unpredictable conformations of the production process.
My photos of those bricks have been reprinted in SL.

This wall, so bright that you could mirror yourself but also look beyond in the various lights of the day, made me think that, in the Evolution of Women’s Rights, we must try to move forward, to grow, to increase our strength and our attitudes in a bright future, but without forgetting the past, which, as in this wall, is still visible and present.

Awareness of ourselves, Union between us and Knowledge of what surrounds us, will allow us to be more defended, because there is no social class, or religion or education or culture where violence cannot be present.

I thank two friends for their kind collaboration:
Orway a Blender expert
AdonisLubomir2 who having also visited this exhibition and although he is American, has given me some of his photos.

Thank you for Listening.
Fran 🙂

Indian Woman Lifting the Veil – A photo series by Jaz

►First, setting your windlight to Midnight would greatly enhance your experience of the exhibition.
►Second, when you enter the exhibition, the left depicts the darker side and the right the brighter side of the lives of the Indian women.

This exhibition has been a very personal journey for me – sometimes excruciating sometimes uplifting. Please feel free to ask me any questions as a dialog is the only way to see the world from a different perspective. I would like to thank Eta Mae (Etaame Resident) for being a great support through the journey of the inception through the creation to the final presentation of the artworks.

The inspiration for this exhibition came from lines in the book “Shyam” by Devdutt Patnaik, a mythologist.

Please visit this exhibit to read a passage from the book and receive a gift from Jaz:
A little bit about your artist: me!

I have been doing photography in SL since 2018 and it would be more than appropriate to say that Milla (Ladmilla) introduced me to the nuances in the art. While I still have much to learn, I am enjoying every minute of learning and doing. Special thanks to Eta for making me look at the amazing possibilities of SL.

I enjoy the different worlds that SL offers, and I find it exhilarating to capture even a slice of it – frozen in time. It has been fun to make the ideas in my head come to life in pictures. with SL as both backdrop and subject.

At this exhibition you will also find a notecard with detailed information about Jaz’ other exhibitions & slurls in SL, including:

2Lei in Second Life
2Lei is the name of spontaneous committee created by citizens of Second Life, born in 2010 with the aim of sensitizing the people organizing and publicizing shows and events related to the “International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women”.Virtual artists, gallery owners, musicians, men and women in Second Life share a common message of solidarity to the women through their particular art.

Since 2010, the Committee organizes the annual event – with the same name – on 25th November: over time, the participation of citizens in Second Life has grown, as well as the number and quality of events.

Of course, on other occasions the committee, through its members, has always organized other events related to the fight against violence towards women: after the end of the edition of 2012, the Committee decided to better organize the rest of the year with the project “2Lei in Second Life 365 days a year,” that extend across the MetaVerse and year-round events and other initiatives, so that the fight against all forms of violence becomes a daily exercise and not only on November 25.
